Young Writers Day is an annual event celebrating writing and creativity among students K-12. A partnership between the WVDE, the Central West Virginia Writing Project, Marshall University, and the University of Charleston. Calhoun had four of their Young Writers Day Winners attend; Brysten Sampson, Vada Barnhart, Addison Collins, and Regan Morgan.
The event was held Friday, May 5, 2023, at the University of Charleston and welcomed West Virginia's own October Sky author Homer Hickam as the keynote speaker. State and county winners attended workshops throughout the day. The day also provided attendees an opportunity to experience the vision of the Ready, Read, Write West Virginia initiative in action through writing.
